Sydney Trains celebrated NAIDOC Week with digital projections onto the clock tower of Sydney’s Central Station created by The Electric Canvas. The 2018 National NAIDOC theme was “Because of her, we can!” which celebrated the invaluable contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have made – and continue to make – to our communities, our families, our rich history and to our nation.
The Electric Canvas’ art department worked with Angela Webb, Sydney Trains’ Manager of Aboriginal Employment, to develop the projection content featuring Australian trailblazers – women of the stolen generation, women who have played significant roles in local communities, and young women of the future. The Electric Canvas utilised photogrammetry techniques to develop 3D portaits of the women that were then composited into different backgrounds and decoratively framed within the architecture of the clock tower.
