As part of the City of Perth’s Boorloo Heritage Festival, The Electric Canvas designed and delivered an impressive projection show, His Maj in the Limelight, celebrating 120 years of His Majesty’s Theatre.
Projected onto the Theatre’s grand and intricate façade, the show traced the venue’s relationship with the city across twelve decades, drawing attention to its recently refurbished heritage balconies and highlighting its role as a cultural landmark.
Working in close collaboration with the City of Perth’s cultural heritage team, TEC developed a series of scenes exploring the theatre’s historical significance, memorable productions, and its resident performing arts companies. Hundreds of archival assets, from photographs of Hay Street at the turn of the 20th century to vintage show posters, were woven into original digital content, accompanied by a rich soundtrack of familiar classics, new compositions, and excerpts from WA Opera’s Wundig wer Wilura by Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse.
The result was a festival highlight that captivated audiences and exemplified TEC’s approach of uniting technical precision with creative storytelling to produce world-class projection experiences.
